Exclusive: Al Campbell - Up Close & Personal ❤️ππ
Alphonso "Al" Campbell (born 31 August 1954) is a Jamaican reggae singer active since the late 1960s.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Campbell's singing career began in church, where his father was a preacher, and Al would sing to raise funds. He went to school with Lloyd James (aka Prince Jammy) and formed a vocal group with friends as a teenager, called The Thrillers, who recorded in the late 1960s for Studio One. After briefly joining up with Freddie McGregor and Ernest Wilson, he went on to work with Prince Lincoln Thompson's Royal Rasses, and the Mighty Cloud band. Campbell then embarked on a solo career (also contributing vocals to two Heptones albums), and was a popular roots reggae singer during the 1970s, recording for producers such as Phil Pratt, Bunny Lee, and Joe Gibbs, and recorded at Lee Perry's Black Ark studio.
His "Gee Baby" was a big hit in 1975 in both Jamaica and the United Kingdom. He adapted successfully to the early dancehall and lovers rock styles in the late 1970s and 1980s, working with producers such as Linval Thompson. Campbell's recording of "Late Night Blues" (1980) became a staple of blues parties. Campbell performed with the Stur-Gav sound system in the early 1980s. More recently he has recorded for King Jammy, Philip "Fatis" Burrell, and Mafia & Fluxy.
In 1997, he joined Cornell Campbell and Jimmy Riley in a new version of The Uniques, the group releasing a self-titled album in 1999.
Campbell has not performed in Jamaica since a stage show held by Jack Ruby shortly before the latter's death. He continues to tour Europe and North America

Freddie McGregor - Reggae Christmas [Official Reggae Christmas Song]
Freddie McGregor - Reggae Christmas [Official Reggae Christmas Song]
Freddie McGregor is one of reggae's most durable and soulful singers, with an incredibly steady career that started all the way back in the '60s, when he was just seven years old. Since then, he's spanned nearly every stylistic shift in Jamaican music, from ska and rocksteady to Rastafarian roots reggae to lovers rock (his particular specialty) to dabblings in dancehall, ragga, and dub.
Not just a singer, he wrote some of his own material, and grew into an accomplished producer as well. McGregor's heyday was the early '80s, when he released several high-quality albums and reached the peak of his popularity in Jamaica and England. However, he remained a strong presence on the reggae scene well into the new millennium.

[King Tubbys & Gussie Clarke]
One of the great dancehall and reggae producers, Gussie Clarke has been a successful Jamaican producer since the early '70s when he helmed Big Youth's debut, Screaming Target, and the 1973 debut from I Roy.
King Tubby is to this day synonymous with dub. He was a man who had a passion for fiddling with sound equipment and turned that passion into a new musical genre and a veritable art form.

Official Dancehall Reggae Sound Clash: Killamanjaro vs David Rodigan [Ne...
Born Garfield Mckoy, in St. Mary Jamaica, Ricky Trooper is considered a living legend of Sound Clash. Hailing from the Mighty Killamanjaro Sound system, Ricky Trooper is responsible for the "Death" (Career ending) of many sounds.
Ricky started playing for a couple of sounds before joining "Jaro Sound". When he started he had no stage name. When he was young he was a member of a band called the "Magnificent marching band of Troopers". So when he became a selector his former band members called him "Trooper". Eventually after playing for several sounds, Trooper built his own sound and partnered with Papa San, another living legend of Dance hall music. But Ricky`s fame, stardom, and his very name ("Ricky" Trooper), all came from his time spent as selector of the world famous "Killamanjaro Sound System".
For over 35 years David Rodigan has been the top dog in the ganja-scented, bass heavy-atmosphere of Britain’s reggae dance-halls. The key to his success has been an unsinkable passion for reggae music, which first took a hold of him as a schoolboy when he heard ska music in the early ’60s.
He developed an obsession with the music of Jamaica that generated an encyclopaedic knowledge of the island’s every artist, every song and every rhythm track.

Official Reggae History: Top Cat Exclusive Interview
Official Reggae History: Top Cat Exclusive Interview
Top Cat has a string of number-one singles to his credit (both as performer and producer) and a British Reggae award for Best British DJ. He's also noted for incorporating jungle and hip-hop into his brand of reggae. He gained experience by toasting with U.K. sound systems, which gave him his first chart-topper, "Love Me Sess" (1988). His debut album, Sensimelia Man, appeared the following year. From JA to UK Clash Vol. 3 was released in 1993. Another number one single followed closely after, called "Request the Style." A reggae version and a jungle version of "Push up Yu Lighter" became Top Cat's third number one for the U.K. charts. After forming the 9 Lives label, he hit the top of the charts again with "Over U Body/Rude Boy Remix" and "Wind You up Body." A compilation of his biggest singles, King of the Jungle is available through Ras Records.

Official Reggae History: Dennis Alcapone Exclusive Interview
Official Reggae History: Dennis Alcapone Exclusive Interview
He wasn't the first -- U-Roy wasn't nicknamed "the Originator" for nothing -- but in Jamaica in the early '70s, Dennis Alcapone was part of a triumvirate of toasters, alongside U-Roy and Big Youth, who ruled the island. Crashing out of the sound systems and onto the airwaves like a tidal wave, this trio of talent was responsible for bringing the art of DJing to never before imagined heights. U-Roy was first off the starting block, releasing his debut single in 1969. But in his shadow, the young Dennis Smith was readying to follow suit. Born in Clarendon, Jamaica, on August 6, 1947, a move to Kingston and a name change were the first order of business. Then, with friends Lizzy and Samuel the First, Alcapone set up the El Paso Hi-Fi sound system in 1969. Its success was legendary, its popularity virtually unrivalled in its day. As the new decade dawned, the DJ recorded his first singles, both for Niney Holness and Rupie Edwards. Filling the platters with rhyming chatter -- catchphrases, exuberant exclamations, bouncing off the original lyrics -- while never losing step with the beats, Alcapone's unique singsong style immediately caught the public's attention.

Notting Hill Carnival 2019 ft King Tubbys, Saxon, Nasty Love & Channel One
Established in the 1960s as a way to bring cohesion to the community, Notting Hill Carnival has been a stalwart on the capital’s party calendar.
Notting Hill Carnival became a major festival in 1975 when it was organised by a young teacher, Leslie Palmer." The carnival was also popularised by live radio broadcasts by Pascall on his daily Black Londoners programme for BBC Radio London.
By the 1950s, both Notting Hill and Brixton had substantial West Indian populations. In fact, both areas became overcrowded, and conditions were poor: poverty riddled every run-down tenement building. There was no hot water, no electricity, and London was fraught with social unease and racial tension. Working-class whites clashed fiercely with their new neighbours, and in 1958, the Race Riots cracked the area further: from August 30 until September 5, mobs of white Teddy Boys vandalised houses and fought with residents. At the time, both Oswald Mosley's far-right Union Movement, and the White Defence League were both dispiritingly popular.

Mad Professor - Exclusive Musical Showcase
Mad Professor was born Neal Fraser (or Neil Fraser) circa 1955 in Guyana, a small country in the northern part of South America. He earned his nickname as a preteen, thanks to his intense interest in electronics; he even built his own radio. At age 13, his family moved to London, and around age 20, he started collecting recording equipment: reel-to-reel tape decks, echo and reverb effects, and the like. In 1979, he built his own mixing board and opened a four-track studio in his living room in the south London area of Thornton Heath. Calling it Ariwa,
