Jean Osbourne, 31 August 1981, Trinidad, West Indies. In her early schooldays, Queen Omega initially performed calypso at various talent contests, but in her teenage years, she began providing backing vocals for a number of Trinidad’s leading soca stars. Her debut as a soloist was a dancehall soca fusion, ‘Fire’, which was followed by the Rastafarian-influenced ‘Babylon Bus’. While Trinidad is celebrated for carnival, calypso and soca the island’s younger generation embraced the music of Jamaica. The popularity of ragga on the islands resulted in appearances from artists such as Anthony B., Bushman and Determine. The visiting Jamaicans were supported by Queen Omega and her association led to ragga recording sessions with Doctor Marshall who produced ‘Warning’ and ‘Highest High’. The songs were assured hits when the producer overdubbed lyrics from Capleton and Sizzla. The dread DJs accepted her pseudonym Queen Omega as an acknowledgement of her Rastafarian ideals (Omega is described as the Ethiopian woman who was arguably the queen of the world).

In the new millennium, Queen Omega was recorded with Tony Rebel in Jamaica. He produced the uncharacteristic ‘Love Yah’, which was relegated to the b-side of ‘Big It Up Fah’. While on the island she met the indomitable Mickey D who introduced her to Trevor ‘Juggling’ T. who produced her self-titled debut. The release featured contributions from the Ruff Cut Band, Anthony B. and Archie Wonder.

Exclusive: Al Campbell - Up Close & Personal ❤️💛💚 Alphonso "Al" Campbell (born 31 August 1954) is a Jamaican reggae singer active since the late 1960s. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Campbell's singing career began in church, where his father was a preacher, and Al would sing to raise funds. He went to school with Lloyd James (aka Prince Jammy) and formed a vocal group with friends as a teenager, called The Thrillers, who recorded in the late 1960s for Studio One. After briefly joining up with Freddie McGregor and Ernest Wilson, he went on to work with Prince Lincoln Thompson's Royal Rasses, and the Mighty Cloud band. Campbell then embarked on a solo career (also contributing vocals to two Heptones albums), and was a popular roots reggae singer during the 1970s, recording for producers such as Phil Pratt, Bunny Lee, and Joe Gibbs, and recorded at Lee Perry's Black Ark studio. His "Gee Baby" was a big hit in 1975 in both Jamaica and the United Kingdom. He adapted successfully to the early dancehall and lovers rock styles in the late 1970s and 1980s, working with producers such as Linval Thompson. Campbell's recording of "Late Night Blues" (1980) became a staple of blues parties. Campbell performed with the Stur-Gav sound system in the early 1980s. More recently he has recorded for King Jammy, Philip "Fatis" Burrell, and Mafia & Fluxy. In 1997, he joined Cornell Campbell and Jimmy Riley in a new version of The Uniques, the group releasing a self-titled album in 1999. Campbell has not performed in Jamaica since a stage show held by Jack Ruby shortly before the latter's death. Jah Screechy most famous for his anthem ‘Walk and

Skank’ on Blacker Dread Records, a track conceptualized in the

dancehall on Sir Lloyd Coxsone sound, where Screechy first toasted

over 20 years ago (then known as ‘Jah Screechy Banton’). The original

1984 release ‘Walk and Skank’ was mixed by Peter Chemist on the Answer

Riddim for Blacker Dread and has been remixed by various producers

ever since, the most notorious being the 1992 smash from SL2 ‘On a

Ragga Tip’ released on XL records, an instant classic which achieved

commercial success bringing the anthemic ‘Walk & Skank’ chorus to a

worldwide audience.
