Dappa Don - One Lover Live & Direct at YouTube
Dappa Don was born in Bristol, UK and moved to Jamaica at the age of eight. There he developed his love of reggae music, which he got from playing his late Dad’s vast collection. He first recognized his love for singing as a teenager in the heart of Kingston. His early influences where; Dennis Brown, Bob Marley, Denroy Morgan, Sugar Minott and Barrington Levy, to name a few.
On his return to the UK in the 90’s, this passion continued back in Bristol, where he could be found on the mic, at local underground venues. In order to have more control and flexibility, he formed a band with the help of friends in the early 2000s, called Dappa Don and The Playaz. He is the lead singer and song writer of the group.
Unfortunately, in 2009 he became ill with meningitis, and had bilateral forefeet amputation. Even though this set him back a little, his love of music never left him. It is during this time that he decided to document his work. In 2016 he completed his first recording with the band, their debut album “May There Come a Time”.
Throughout the years, Dappa Don has performed on his own and with the band in various locations in the UK, local venues and festivals, like St Paul’s and Notting Hill Carnivals; as well as Greece and Spain. In 2017 he took part in his first ever competition, Britain’s Got Reggae and got through to the semi-finals. This has built a great platform and is continuously bringing new opportunities. For instance, collaborating with Don Sinclair and performing live for YouTube.
Big thanks to all involved in this production and my supporters. The journey continues!
