King Tubbys - Exclusive Dubplate Session 2018 ❤️💛💚
Cecil Rennie AKA King Tubby’s, born in the parish of St Thomas,,Jamaica. He came to England as a teenager in 1965. His love of music wasn’t left behind in Jamaica; it developed in England to become a life long passion. Cecil started his quest to be a leading soundman by serving his apprenticeship as a dedicated follower/selector of Duke Reid Sound System, This association lasted until 1969. In March 1970 King Tubby’s hi-fi was born making Cecil at the age of 19, one of the youngest sound system owners in the UK. The name was styled after the legendary Dub Master from Jamaica, Osbourne Ruddock AKA King Tubby’s who Cecil saw as his inspiration and mentor in Reggae Music. This friendship and close working relationship remained right up to the day of Osbourne’s untimely death in 1989. King Tubby’s hi-fi became King Tubby’s Sound System and went from strength to strength. In 1973 introducing dub plate specials on sound systems, King Tubby’s led the way.
The Sound’s reputation grew and from playing locally in the Brixton area, soon there was not a venue in the UK King Tubby’s had not played at. King Tubby’s caught the imagination of reggae music lovers everywhere and the dances were always packed.
King Tubby’s Sound System has been hailed as one of the if not the most consistent sounds over the last four decades. The consistency and success is down to how the sound is run. Everybody in the sound is considered equal and everybody’s role is important.
The years of hard grafting in London, England and Europe have paid off as Cecil, aka King Tubby's took home the crown of No.1 London sound system in 2003.
King Tubby's has won many titles along the way but feels that this crown is very important as nobody nowadays seems to differentiate between a DJ (carrying a box of records) to a sound system and all what that entails.
Marla Brown - Better Days Live & Direct at YouTube
Marla Brown is the youngest child and daughter of the Late, Great Crown Prince of Reggae, Dennis Emanuel Brown CD with Widow Yvonne Brown (Yvonne Special).
With a history of professionalism through the arts, young Brown is no stranger to performance and entertainment. Having Ballet, Street and Contemporary dance as her foundation, Marla has performed extensively around Europe for over 14 years with her dancing ability. A past Ambassador for the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, a semi finalist in the Hit TV Show Britain’s Got Talent and noted dancer for the sporting Giant Adidas, she is well known in circles around London. Garnering English national championship titles, extensive theatre productions and showcases around Europe, it is believed this young empress is destined for the stage.
With such a barrel of achievements, Marla is continuing on her father’s legacy through her own heartfelt way. “Music and Art have been embedded in my heart and soul from young so it is an organic movement to enter the music world on a professional level and share my love for it with others.”
From there she flew to Kingston Jamaica to launch her solo career and represent her father during Reggae Month in February 2014, performing at various shows in and around the island. With extensive radio and magazine interviews, shows and appearances, it was Marla’s impressive performance at the Dennis Brown Annual Tribute Show (held by Jaria Jamaica) where she really made the Brown name shine bright.
As quoted by the Jamaica Gleaner newspaper, “young Brown delivered a brilliant set, which sent the audience into sheer nostalgia as her performance reminded them of Dennis Brown. Remarks about how much she resembled her father could be heard all around the car park. Her renditions of Silhouette and How Could I Leave were obvious crowd-pleasers, but it was her original song, Here Comes the King, that gave young Brown her biggest and most favourable response from the crowd. The song was dedicated to her father and was her own personal tribute to his life and work. Following her performance was a presentation of an International Reggae Day Award, dedicated to The Crown Prince for his contribution to the genre.”
Marla’s debut single, 'Better Days' was produced by Royal Order Music and Green Stone Music and premiered by David Rodigan on BBC 1XTRA. Better Days demonstrates Marla’s writing and vocal skills and as Marla explains, “is an upful declaration to my people that no matter what challenges you may face in life, you will not and shall not face it alone.”
With a barrel of upcoming musical collaborations with some of Jamaica’s finest artists and producers, it can be said that this young Princess has a bright, exciting future ahead within the music industry.
The Mackerel (born December 25, 1967) was a popular entertainer during the digital era of Jamaican dancehall music, most famous for his screeching sounds when he performed live or in studio.
